Meg was motivated to try her hand at homemade brandy — our first effort at home brew turned out about a gallon of this very tasty blackberry liquor. As it sat, getting thick and turning a deep purple, we’d been cheating, spooning it over ice cream for guests and stealing occasional nips ourselves. It was beyond good. Sugary sweet with a strong taste of the berry.
The blackberries came from Bill and Renay’s patch next door so it seemed fitting they would be on the receiving end of our first “bottling.” Total output for this first batch was about two gallons.

Next up for Meg? Not beer. Not wine. But a beverage that requires the purest of waters for the best possible taste. Something Meg knows very well.
