On the Smith, the fish don’t come any bigger. This 35-pound whopper was hooked by guests Doug and Julie on their guided float down the river yesterday. Evidently the day had ended — after a nearly a full day’s float with nibbles but no bites — when the couple and guide saw a huge salmon make a jump and turn mid-air. The three looked at each other and reassessed the situation. Already tired and cold, they could call it a day. Or they could rig up and try to land this monster.
When Julie and Doug showed up at the end of the day they were beat, but happy. We carved up the fish and vacuum sealed fillets and steaks for the drive home. Nice work, gang. And today dawns warm and breezy…I’m guessing there’s some bank fishing somewhere in today’s plan (or maybe it’s all about the hot tub, hehe).
