From the start I knew something was different about Caroline and Nancy. They arrived and sort of poured out of their car. They walked on egg shells, floating on the driveway’s asphalt. Their smiles had a beatific quality. They giggled.
After the introductions I found out why. Leaving at midnight the night before, the two had driven 17 hours to get here, barely sleeping.
Touchdown on the terra firma of bnb hiouchi must have come as a shock to the system. But they bounced right back and by the looks of it took to the place right away. There were swoons when they looked at the river, belly rubs and cooing for Anton, and oohs and aahs when I broke out the chocolate chip-oatmeal cookies. Their full day in Hiouchi was spent on the Boy Scout Tree trail. Smart.
They made themselves at home from the start, cooking up ramen for dinner on the first night then kicking back with a Curt-made meal on the second. Lots of email, some facebook posts, soaks in the hot tub, a little netflix and more facebook posts and it was time to get back in the car for the drive south.
Reluctantly they finished breakfast on the second morning knowing it would be impossible to apply logic to starting a 17 hour drive but they did their best. There was talk of a return trip in the warmer months ahead and plenty of web searches for cheap flights. Double smart. 🙂
