Of all the trees in all the groves in all the forests where the redwood tree grows, this photo shows the largest of them all. The magnificent Lost Monarch. Its size when seen from afar is nothing short of normal. There is just nothing that announces it as spectacular. Then, when you walk around it and look up toward the sky, it hits you. Like a waterfall of tree and bark and leaf and moss which defies gravity, reason and logic, the Lost Monarch rises beyond the sky, so many trunks of tree and so much mass, there is really nothing to compare it to.
Just look at this tree. And then look at Sharon standing to the side. I mean really look at this photo. The tree dwarfs us people-folk, doesn’t it?
The redwoods in the Jed Smith Forest are amazing. Amazing.
