Whoever said there are a lot of fish in the sea has never tried to catch one on the Smith. Known as a tough river to fish, some spend days and others drop hundreds of dollars giving it a try. Bill and Elaine, up from the Central Valley and Bay turned those tough odds on their head. Elaine hooked a wild steelhead just below the bnb and then a second. Bill’s bright chromer was a hatchery fish and one he effortlessly contributed to the evening’s meal (which we ate with so much gusto I plum forgot to take a any snaps). It was a beauty to behold and tasted fine bathed in oil, garlic and cilantro.
With nothing but rain over the past 48 hours and the river rising, the fishermen are on forced hiatus until the Smith drops back in…figure Monday or Tuesday at the earliest. But Bill and Elaine can kick back and relax; they found what they were looking for.
Yes, a lot of fish in the sea but only one that matters.
