The talk in Hiouchi today was all about the steelhead run. Everyone wants to know when exactly this thing is going to kick off.
While the annual run is a hard thing to pin down, conditions today and tonight are looking excellent for the aspiring fisherman. Guides were out in force today, and these guides are not out there collecting money for mere fun floats down the Smith — they are motivated to deliver hook-ups, landings and keepers.
Tonight the Smith is getting hammered by rain. Here’s a peek at the NOAA chart pulled down from the web just a few minutes ago — it’s predicting a rising river through mid-day Friday, a drop-off for 24 hours, then another bump on Saturday.
If the fish are listening I know they are feeling the love from fishermen up and down the coast. So is it time to head to Hiouchi for some fishin’? I’ll be back online tomorrow with an update.
