Trending on Facebook and Instagram tonight? Weather.
This is what I know from my four minutes on my two favorite anti-social networks. It’s snowing or raining or hailing or something in Des Moines, with bumper-car action on at least one major thoroughfare. New York City is warmer than San Juan. West of the Rockies, including Aspen, Mt. Hood, and Twain Harte (in CA) are getting hammered by snowfall. Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood reported 67″ of snow in the past 72 hours. Is that a typo? That’s over five feet of snow?!
All of a sudden I don’t feel so bad in Hiouchi.
Still…weather conditions here are fair to crud. Almost two inches of rain in the past 24 hours. A severe weather warning for elevations above 2,000 feet in Del Norte County (that’s us). Up to a foot of snow higher up. And hazardous conditions on Hwy. 199, to the east.
It’s like I stepped into the world’s elevator, everyone chatting about the weather. And now, me too.
Strangely, the Smith’s water level is falling. It’s still a super exciting time to be in the redwoods. Rain, hail, snow nearby and temperatures in the 30s. Finally, real winter.
