You won’t find more beautiful rivers and ocean then what we have in northern California. The Smith is unique among all California rivers — undammed its entire length, huge salmon and steelhead that swim the river in winter, crystal clear water for kayakers and swimmers in the summer. The nearby Pacific Ocean is just as tempting — deep sandy beaches, a shoreline peppered with seastacks, and waters full of crab, tuna, and cod. Unbelievable.

The big rivers of the north coast are the Smith, Klamath, and Chetco. Mill Creek is also a player. Here’s what you need to know.
