I went out fishing today with good friend Larry Week. Learned a bundle about fishing for steelhead trout but not enough to land one. Jeez, these fish are tough to catch. (Note the clarity of the water…nice to observe but these conditions favor the fish as they can more easily see boats and fishing line.)
But the fish are present in the river and in big numbers — there are many stories circulating around town of successful runs on the river for local guides and their clients.
While Larry and I were fishing the Boulder Garden, a stretch of the Smith just below the bnb, a pod of four boats drifted by on the current. The above shot has local guides Paul Tromble on the left and Kim Hagen slipping past.
Larry and I may have gotten shut out but not the pros (this group of anglers hooked 19 steelhead yesterday). With rains due tonight and tomorrow, I need to up my game and fast.
